An article by Emily Bennet

Carrie Bradshaw is such an inspiration to me, from her amazing sense of style, to her outstanding elegance; she has never failed to inspire me. I first en-counted this inspiration when I spotted Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City, she made the television series amazing, and brought fashion into the programme.  The outfit choices that Carrie wore, the crazy, the brave, and the mind-boggling choices that Carrie paraded season after season, that I am happy to say, made my personal clothing choices a little braver too.

I remember seeing this fur coat during the first season of Sex and the City, shopping bags and fur – that was the beginning of Carrie Bradshaw. Of course, the pink dress! The amazing dress Carrie wore to her friend’s wedding, the wedding were big wouldn’t sign the card! When I first spotted this dress I fell in love with it, and I still love it now. It’s kind of funny, most of the clothing that Carrie wore during the TV series people still tends to wear clothing like it now, and some of the things are actually coming back into fashion today.

Flowers and fur. I love how Carrie has taken a plain white vest, added a flower to it, and made it look that whole lot better. I used to be obsessed with Carrie’s bag collection, and my favorite of them all used to be this Dior saddle bag. She wore this to Aidan’s store to meet him for the first time, right? And who doesn’t associate that large hair bun with Carrie Bradshaw? Signature Carrie up-do.

Remember when Carrie and Aidan were engaged, how she refused to wear the ring on her finger? How she hid it among the piles, upon piles of pearls? Just another one of those instances, when wardrobe choices are so telling. And the skirt on the right…it was just so delightfully weird – I desperately wanted one too! I couldn’t find a better photo of it…but the back had feathers/ruffles attached to it…only Carrie.
There’s just a few of my favorite Carrie Bradshaw outfits. I suppose she’s became an inspiration to me because she didn’t really care what people thought, Carrie wore whatever she wanted to wear, and if she got funny looks or strange comments, she would just let them slide and continue. I suppose I want people to think like that now, I want them to get into the right frame of mind, and understand that it really doesn’t matter what people think, you should be able to wear whatever makes you feel good, and if people around you don’t like it – hold your head high, and be true to who you are!
